About: Has >20 years of collective research experience, spread across leading Anti-bacterial & Anti-fungal New Drug Discovery, Project management of 5 Therapeutic areas at Orchid Pharma (Oncology, Inflammation, CNS, Infection & Metabolic Disorders), leading Evidence-based medical research at St. Martha’s Hospital in 7 clinical disciplines (Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, OBG, Family Medicine & Anesthesia), practicing & Teaching Clinical Microbiology at Kempegowda Medical College (KIMS) prior to Doctorate. Is now heading Research in Biological Sciences establishing inter-disciplinary research covering all the 14 Institutions of Acharya Institutes, Bengaluru. A Doctorate in Microbiology (Medical, Gnanaganga) in a project supported by Harvard Medical School (USA), and post-doctoral-experience in Microbial-pathogenesis from USFDA (USA), Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (USA), Umea University (Sweden), and in Anti-infectives-discovery from Dr. Reddy’s Research Foundation (India), has collaborated with Karolinska Institute (Sweden), University of Helsinki (Finland), Washington University (USA), BWH Harvard Medical School (USA) & University of Southern California (USA). Significant achievements: • Member of the Antimicrobial Resistance Committee of Infectious Disease Society of America, USA (IDSA, 2018-2021); Served as IDSA’s Member of Research-Advisory-Board (Group-of-11, 2017-18); is also National Advisor of ICCAR – Society for Antimicrobial Research (IIT, Kharagpur). • Established Infection Control at St. Martha’s Hospital & achieved Level-1 NABH Accreditation • Co-Led the discovery, development & out-licensing of an Anti-infective molecule AAI101 at Phase-1 ready (now in Phase 3) • Successfully defended Orchid’s generic Zosyn® against Wyeth (Pfizer) by contributing a novel bioassay • Clinched & executed Indian & overseas collaborative projects yielding successful milestones esp. in an eight-year collaborative new drug discovery program with Merck USA • Co-discovered several pre-clinical anti-infective NCEs against multiple targets & holds several patents with Orchid, & 1 with Merck, USA (published) covering 5 inventions • Co-characterized >70 genes/proteins, & published 27 peer-reviewed-research, 1 Book-chapter and >20 conference-posters; mentored more than 150 medical post-graduates in 7 clinical disciplines
