About: I am Dr. Mulusew Andualem Asemahagn, an Associate Professor in Public Health at Bahir Dar University, where I also serve as the Corporate Director for Research and Community Service. My primary research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including infectious diseases—such as tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, and malaria—as well as the interplay between TB and nutrition, comorbidities, and the TB-HIV co-infection. Additionally, I am deeply engaged in public health informatics, focusing on digital health innovations, telemedicine, mobile health applications, geographic information systems (GIS), disease mapping, and evidence-informed decision-making. My expertise extends to implementation research, knowledge translation, non-communicable diseases, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), and health systems and policy. I have authored over 75 research articles, contributed to one book, and produced four policy briefs. Furthermore, I have supervised more than 85 master's students and 8 PhD candidates. In terms of research project achievements, I have successfully secured funding for four external projects from prominent organizations, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the Institute of Primary Healthcare. In Ethiopia, I have led 15 major projects in collaboration with Bahir Dar University and the Ministry of Health. As a Corporate Director for Research and Community Service, I effectively manage my projects and ensure their successful implementation. I have also organized and chaired three international research conferences in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Amhara Public Health Institute, and the Amhara Regional Health Bureau. From April 2022 to April 2024, I served as the Chairperson of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for research ethics at Bahir Dar University. Additionally, I held the position of Director for the Mecha Health and Demographic Surveillance Site (HDSS) at the university during the same timeframe. I maintain close collaborations with several institutions, including the Ethiopian Ministry of Health (EMoH), the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), the Amhara Regional Health Bureau (ARHB), the Amhara Public Health Institute (APHI), the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME-GBD), and the WHO, to advance public health initiatives in Ethiopia. I am open and ready towork with collaborator researchers, funders, institutions,and partners to contribute more in research, innovation, service enhancement, consultancy, projects, academia/ teaching, advising and examining.
