The CDC on their website are providing a basic microbiology curriculum, containing several relevant courses for working in a laboratory. Further information on the curriculum can be found via http://www.cdc.gov/labtraining/docs/288-012-013_Basic_Microscopy_Brochure.pdf.

The individual courses are:

Basic Microscopy
Culture Media and Isolation Techniques
Biochemicals and Gram Positive Organism ID
Biochemicals and Gram Negative Organism ID
Routine Microscopy Procedures
Antimicrobial Susceptibility Quality Assurance and Quality Control

 

Each course has a duration of 60-90 minutes and is free of charge with registration via this page: http://www.cdc.gov/labtraining/cdc-lab-training-courses/microscopy.html

. The training allows participants to obtain course credits by taking tests.
